             PASTURE RAISED POULTRY
We believe that you should have a choice in what you eat, and not have to eat all of the antibiotic and hormone laden chicken available in the super market. Yes, they are cheap, but not healthy. I have been raising chicken for our family freezer for 19 years now, and believe me there is a huge difference in our chicken compared to your other choices out there. We like to call ours "Chicken Like Grandma Used To Fix". Our chicks are started in the brooder house for a couple of weeks since they need a heat source to stay warm, then around 2-3 weeks of age they have grown enough and have developed feathers to stay warm. Then they are moved outside in our bottomless pens on fresh pasture, mostly clover, which they love, and bugs, fresh air and sunshine. They are moved to a fresh spot of pasture every morning. They are very happy chickens, they run around and flap their wings and catch bugs, then they like to rest and stretch out in the sunshine. They are also fed a Certified Organic Non Gmo Feed. They have a fresh supply of water that drips cool well water to them all day. They are never fed any antibiotics or hormones at any time. The supermarket chicken packages notes " No added hormones or antibiotics" meaning that none extra is added, this does not include what is already in their feed and water. We do our own processing here on our farm in a climate controlled environment, held at 40 degrees. It is inside, so they are not processed outside where the heat and bugs can get to them. We then air chill them to 36 degrees for 8 hours before bagging, then we turn down the temperature and allow them to freeze. Air chilling has many benefits to the flavor of the meat, since the chicken is not chilled in ice water like most, it only contains it's own natural juices, not allowing the bird to soak in the chill water that all of the others are soaking in. Air chilling is a much safer way to quickly chill down the bird after processing. Give one a try, we are sure you will like it!

Why do we not have beef jerky, snack sticks, brats etc? We choose not to have these products made from our beef because these products cannot be made without adding preservatives like nitrates & nitrites. Our family does not eat these kinds of products, so we choose not to offer them to our customers.

All of our cattle are born and raised on our farm, they run with their mothers and get milk and all the fresh grass they can eat. They are grazed on the pesticide free pastures, hills and valleys of our farm, healthy soil = healthy animals. They rest in the shade of the woods and cool off in the spring fed ponds. In the winter they are fed alfalfa-orchard grass hay that we put up off of our farm. They are completely grass fed and finished, never being fed ANY grain, or any antibiotics, hormones or steroids. Truly the way nature intended. Our cattle never consume anything from off our farm except salt and an all natural mineral. Grass fed beef has a wonderful taste, texture and marbling, without the unwanted fat that grain puts on them. The fat on our beef is natural from the grass which makes our beef high in Omega 3 and conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA).

HEIRLOOM VEGETABLES
The saying, "you are what you eat" is as true for vegetables as it is for people. The healthier the soil, the more nutritious the vegetable as plants absorb what the soil contains. To ensure healthy soil for the long-term, we have to put back in what the vegetables take away. We do this by composting, adding soil amendments, growing cover crops, and practicing crop rotation. Additions made to the soil now will directly affect the quality of our Spring produce, so we are working hard to make our soil is as nutrient-rich as possible. After all, you are what your vegetables eat. Read More

Additions made to the soil now will directly affect the quality of our produce for seasons to come, all of this is why we do not use chemical fertilzers or pesticides on our vegetables.

Being a diversified  farm (raising animals as well as fruits and vegetables) we our able to supply our own composting materials such as hay/straw  that we use to bed our animals with during the winter, using what comes off of our own farm keeps the energy to produce the end product to a minimum plus also lets us know what we are puting back into our soil.

RAW JERSEY MILK

We also have fresh raw milk available from our small herd of jersey cows. They are also grass fed. The milk has the cream on top and is wonderful for making butter. The milk is put in glass half gallon mason jars and is $2.50 per half gallon. It is available fresh every day of the week. Milk is only available from the farm and is not available at the farmers market. We love our jersey cows very much. They are just as much a part of the family as the dogs! We have a background of dairy farming so milking cows is nothing new here. Dale grew up on a dairy farm with his parents and we continued until the fall of 2000 when we sold the herd of holsteins. His Grandparents also had a dairy farm before his parents started theirs.  We had a short period after selling the holsteins that we did not have any dairy cattle and missed them very much. Then we really got to missing the milk so we bought 1 jersey heifer named Quaint. From there our herd has grown with our daughters raising 3 heifers and now they are having their own calves. We really like the temperment of the jersey cows over the holsteins and the quality of the milk and amount of cream they give. We use our milk to make a variety of things including: butter, yogurt, several kinds of cheese, buttermilk and kefir.
