PASTURE RAISED POULTRY
We believe that you should have a choice in what you eat, and not have to eat all of the antibiotic and hormone laden chicken available in the super market. Yes, they are cheap, but not healthy. I have been raising chicken for our family freezer for 19 years now, and believe me there is a huge difference in our chicken compared to your other choices out there. We like to call ours "Chicken Like Grandma Used To Fix". Our chicks are started in the brooder house for a couple of weeks since they need a heat source to stay warm, then around 2-3 weeks of age they have grown enough and have developed feathers to stay warm. Then they are moved outside in our bottomless pens on fresh pasture, mostly clover, which they love, and bugs, fresh air and sunshine. They are moved to a fresh spot of pasture every morning. They are very happy chickens, they run around and flap their wings and catch bugs, then they like to rest and stretch out in the sunshine. They are also fed a Certified Organic Non Gmo Feed. They have a fresh supply of water that drips cool well water to them all day. They are never fed any antibiotics or hormones at any time. The supermarket chicken packages notes " No added hormones or antibiotics" meaning that none extra is added, this does not include what is already in their feed and water. We do our own processing here on our farm in a climate controlled environment, held at 40 degrees. It is inside, so they are not processed outside where the heat and bugs can get to them. We then air chill them to 36 degrees for 8 hours before bagging, then we turn down the temperature and allow them to freeze. Air chilling has many benefits to the flavor of the meat, since the chicken is not chilled in ice water like most, it only contains it's own natural juices, not allowing the bird to soak in the chill water that all of the others are soaking in. Air chilling is a much safer way to quickly chill down the bird after processing. Give one a try, we are sure you will like it!

The saying, "you are what you eat" is as true for vegetables as it is for people. The healthier the soil, the more nutritious the vegetable as plants absorb what the soil contains. To ensure healthy soil for the long-term, we have to put back in what the vegetables take away. We do this by composting, adding soil amendments, growing cover crops, and practicing crop rotation. Additions made to the soil now will directly affect the quality of our produce for seasons to come, all of this is why we do not use chemical fertilzers or pesticides on our vegetables.
